Rock Ferry has real variety. Nearer the river there are substantial Victorian houses, many now divided into flats, with wide staircases and generous rooms. Behind them are tighter terraced streets. The same postcode can mean a four-storey carry or a straightforward ground-floor load.
The bigger old houses are the ones to plan for. Original staircases with tight turns, heavy doors and long hallways all add time, and where a property has been split into flats there is usually a communal entrance to work around and neighbours to keep onside.
