Claughton has some of the best Victorian housing in Birkenhead, particularly around the park: tall villas, generous rooms and a good number of properties since divided into flats. High ceilings and original staircases make for a more careful move than a modern semi.
Street parking is the practical issue. The roads are attractive but not wide, and residents' cars take up most of the kerb through the day. We plan where the van will sit before we arrive, and on the tighter roads an early start makes the whole day easier.
Being right beside Birkenhead we are here constantly. The mix is full house moves, flat moves in the converted villas, and clearances or probate work on the larger long-held properties.
